Escape rooms are all the rage these days, and unless you’ve been living under a rock the past few years, you’ve probably heard of them. Now one has finally come to Carrollton!
But what exactly is an escape room, and how do they work? Well, if you remember escape room games—which were fairly popular phone apps—then you already have the basic idea down. If not, this is how they work.
Each escape room is set up as though you were locked in a room. Most places don’t really lock you in, and there’s always a “panic button” scenario where they will let you out if needed. Anyways, the idea is that you’re locked in. Rooms are also often based on themes. Our themes include Becoming Houdini, the Baker Street Five murder mystery, and the Sheriff’s Office!
After you’re in the room, there’s a set amount of time you and your team members (usually friends or family) have to solve various clues and puzzles hidden throughout the room in order to find the key and ultimately free yourselves. Puzzles can vary widely, and some will be more challenging than others. Games typically run about 60 mins.
It’s a great team-building and family-bonding experience as well as a test of personal puzzle and problem-solving skills. If you solve your way out in the allotted time, you can brag to everyone you meet about your success. If you don’t quite make it in time… well, you can always try again!
